About Lighthouse

Make a Meaningful Impact

Lighthouse for the Blind & Low Vision provides on-site comprehensive rehabilitation programs for persons who are blind or visually impaired in two locations in Florida. On-site services are provided in Tampa and in Winter Haven for persons residing in Hillsborough, Polk and Hardee counties.

Our training programs are designed to help individuals who have recently lost part or all of their vision to gain the skills needed to perform daily living tasks independently and maintain their employment.

Rehabilitation Engineering services are provided Statewide by Lighthouse Assistive Technology Specialists to help blind or visually impaired individuals maintain their existing employment through the use of assistive technology and devices.

Primary Location: Based in Tampa, FL with frequent visits to Winter Haven, FL

Position Summary: Provide direction, support, and supervision for Tampa and Polk County Rehabilitation teams while overseeing facilities in both locations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for Tampa and Polk County Rehabilitation Services including Social Services, Independent Living, Supported Employment, Vocational Evaluation, Job Development, Early Intervention, Transition, Store, and Client Transportation.
  • Deliver ongoing supervision, coaching, and professional development for direct reports; complete reviews, work plans, and development goals.
  • Foster strong relationships with the Division of Blind Services, funding partners, and community agencies.
  • Ensure staff stay informed through regular communication and by leading staff, program, and department meetings.
  • Monitor program quality, policies, and procedures; provide timely updates, data, and documentation.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at both Winter Haven and Tampa locations.
  • Align program vision with organizational mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certification preferred in CVRT, COMS, or TVI.
  • Minimum five years of experience effectively managing large teams preferred.
  • Skilled in managing multi-site operations and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work onsite and travel weekly to the Winter Haven office.
  • Strong written communication for reports, grants, and stakeholder updates.
  • Responsive management approach with timely follow-up to email, text, and phone communication.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team building, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work with employees from diverse backgrounds; some evening and weekend work required.

Locations: Tampa, FL (1106 West Platt Street) and Winter Haven, FL (206 Avenue D N.W.)

Position Summary: Provide early childhood development support and instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum to visually impaired children (birth to age five) and their families in home, school, and community settings.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Evaluate each child’s visual impairment and developmental needs; provide individualized support services for children and families.
  • Complete assessments including educational, developmental, functional vision/sensory learning (FVLMA), and Expanded Core Curriculum areas.
  • Design educational plans and objectives that align with family goals and state standards.
  • Deliver instruction across Expanded Core Curriculum areas including independent living, orientation and mobility, communication, social development, sensory development, emergent literacy, and assistive technology.
  • Utilize instructional techniques such as play-based learning, calendar boxes, communication devices, and sensory learning strategies.
  • Serve as liaison among schools, agencies, and community resources; coordinate family workshops and trainings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and emerging techniques.
  • Complete required documentation and reporting accurately and on time.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Visual Disabilities Education (early childhood emphasis preferred).
  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record for itinerant visits.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a variety of personalities.
  • Demonstrated judgment and empathy in client interactions.

Primary Location: Winter Haven, FL (206 Avenue D N.W.)

Position Summary: Organize, plan, and deliver orientation and mobility training for adults who are blind or visually impaired in community, work, campus, and home environments.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assess individual orientation and mobility needs and develop customized training plans.
  • Provide safe, individualized instruction across basic and advanced orientation and mobility skills.
  • Adapt instruction to job, college, community, and home settings; ensure safety in all learning scenarios.
  • Collaborate with staff, professionals, volunteers, and community resources on behalf of clients.
  • Support community education through outreach and in-service training programs.
  • Stay current on industry developments and best practices.
  • Complete documentation and reporting requirements accurately.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility.
  • Must be ACVREP certifiable (COMS) with intent to achieve certification within one year.
  • Empathetic understanding of clients with discerning judgment.
  • Creative, flexible approach to instruction and program design.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Job Status & Classification: Full-time, Exempt

Reports To: Director of Technology Services

Primary Location: Tampa or Winter Haven, FL

Position Summary: Deliver rehabilitation engineering, assistive technology consultation, and skills training to clients and stakeholders across Florida.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Stay current with enterprise, assistive, and legacy technologies.
  • Travel extensively across Florida to conduct assessments and deliver solutions.
  • Evaluate job sites for accessibility barriers and recommend modifications for successful employment outcomes.
  • Assess individual assistive technology needs and develop tailored recommendations.
  • Consult with employers to analyze accessibility issues and provide technical support.
  • Implement approved job modification plans, including purchasing, configuring, installing, and training on recommended solutions.
  • Coordinate equipment procurement with customers and provide follow-up technical support.
  • Research emerging technology trends and propose program enhancements.
  • Maintain detailed records, documentation, and reports (extensive report writing required).
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on assistive and mainstream hardware/software.
  • Provide assistive technology training to clients as assigned and collaborate with team members on accessibility solutions.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree in Rehabilitation Engineering, Vocational Rehabilitation, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to teach vocational clients.
  • Strong knowledge of computer technology, job engineering, placement, and PC troubleshooting/repair.
  • Reliable personal transportation and willingness to travel extensively in Florida.
  • Experience with vocational services for people with disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. of computer equipment for workstation setup.
  • Must earn DBS Assistive Technology Endorsement and ACVREP CATIS certification within two years of hire.
